Dead shells recorded from Loch Creran (Gage, 1972), probably an error of identification for Acanthocardia echinata, as are all recent records which have been checked, such as that from west Sutherland (Davies, 1898a). Allen (1962) was of the same opinion regarding the Clyde records. Another record, also probably in error, is that from Portstewart (Knight, 1903a).
