Fairly common, living low on rocky shores and in shallow water offshore, under boulders, but usually in crevices and in Laminaria spp. holdfasts and amongst the convolutions of thickly encrusting Lithothamnion glaciale in rock pools. Very variable morphology. The specimen recorded by Smith from Loch Toscaig, Applecross (Turk, 1969) as Acanthochitona discrepans (Brown, 1827) was discussed in Smith (1978b) as none of the species listed here, but subsequent investigation shows it to be this species. |
