Common inshore and at low water, usually living and feeding amongst red algae. Long breeding season but mostly early summer when the red egg-strings are common. Egg strings dredged in 10-15m off Dunstaffnage in November 1992. It has been observed drifting through the water, although Thompson (1988) stated that it characteristically does not swim. Many old records, especially from the Clyde. |
