Common, living inshore and offshore on mud and muddy gravel, occasional on sand to about 200m. One found living intertidally in Loch Carron in 1967 (A M Smith). Fretter & Graham (1988) indicated that it is a detritus feeder. Shells tend to have epifauna, chiefly barnacles. Dead shells widespread. Many old records. |
