Widespread but rare, living in silt inshore (rarely) and offshore. Dead shells not uncommon at the shelf edge. May live as deep as 1000m. Over 200 specimens, dredged on Porcupine Bank in 1981, were with the remains of Cancer pagurus, suggesting that it may eat carrion. |
