Apart from the records from Loch Broom in 1991 (Holt, 1991), not checked, and from Skye, other recent living occurrences appear to be confined to the Loch Linnhe/Firth of Lorn area and the Clyde. Locally common, living in gravel and muddy gravel at low water and inshore especially in still water. Found living in Loch Duich (Winckworth, 1923) and regarded by Jeffreys (1866) as common around Skye. Old records from the Clyde.
