Common, living on most shores, especially amongst boulders which may be nursery areas, the newly-hatched and very small juveniles sheltering amongst algae. Also common inshore and offshore on hard and firm ground to over 200m, and found north of our area at over 600m. Predates on polychaetes and molluscs, also a carrion feeder. Dead shells widespread. Many old records. |
