Common living on bedrock, boulders and larger algae in clean water from low water downwards. Colour is variable and seems in some cases to be determined by the geology of the substrate and/or degree of exposure. Shells with a bluish tinge are more likely to be found on limestone, those on granite or granitic metamorphic rock are frequently a yellowish pink. Paler forms are often found in sheltered current while darker ones are on exposed coasts. Feeds by rasping micro-organisms off the rock. |
