Fairly common, living at low water on sponges or algae, feeds on sponges and associated detritus. Commoner in the south of the area and most common in Donegal. Rare in the north where it approaches the limit of its range. Recorded from Loch Boisdale by Marshall (1910), but most old records are from the Clyde. Dead shells rare.
