Figured: S M Smith
Length: 65 mm

Common, living at low water and inshore, especially in Loch Roag. Scottish specimens are usually large and white or cream in colour, but the smaller purple form lives in many localities along the north coast of Ireland. Some of the Scottish specimens show characters intermediate with var. nivea (Light, 1988). Few dead shells. Most old records from the Clyde.
