Figured: S M Smith
Length: 25 mm

Sporadically common and numerous in Donegal, less so in Scotland. Apparently absent from the Scottish mainland north of Skye. Living from mid-tide downwards to 10m on rock and under boulders, usually where there is a current or wave action. Probably feeds on sponges, small hydroids or bryozoans. It is suggested that the Scottish stock may not breed regularly but is maintained by planktonic drift of larvae from further south. The distribution appears related to the sea currents. Dead shells sporadic. Old records are also lacking from the northern part of the area.
