Sporadic, probably not uncommon living on bedrock in sealochs, especially the more southern ones, and offshore to below 300m. Live-taken shells localised as 'Oban' are in the collections of the National Museums of Scotland and from the 'Lynn of Morven' in the National Museum of Wales. Recorded as 'very fine alive in Loch Etive' by Darbishire (1885). Probably a detritus feeder. Dead shells are widespread, but many seem to be fossil. Many old records. |
