Common, living on rocky shores, but local distribution patchy. Usually lives higher on the shore than Steromphala cineraria, but when very common drives this down to low water mark. The numerous recordings by divers appear to have been errors for Steromphala cineraria, which can also have an umbilicus. It appears to be listed in error on some data recording sheets for the sublittoral. Dead shells common. Many old records. |
