Widespread, probably common, under-recorded, usually single individuals living sublittorally on bedrock and shell gravel. Small specimens have been found to below 600m at several stations on the Hebrides Terrace. Old records are sparse and their localisation is vague. Recorded by Jeffreys (1866); Marshall (1893 et seq.) and Allen (1962).
