Sporadically common, living and feeding on algae, chiefly reds such as Palmaria palmata, at and just below low water, usually on exposed coasts. Much commoner in the south, apparently very rare or absent from Skye and Wester Ross, but found in Sutherland. Although this distribution is in many aspects similar to Tricolia pullus (they tend to occupy the same habitat), it must be remembered that Lacuna parva, unlike Tricolia pullus, is found on the east coast of Scotland (McKay & Smith, 1979) and thus cannot be regarded as a southern species. |
