Very common living on the shore on bedrock, amongst boulders and on dead shells, especially in large pools. Occasionally sublittoral to 10m. Juveniles common on algae. Occurs further up the shore and further inland up sea lochs than the other species of chiton. Tolerates intermittent brackish conditions.
