Very common, living and feeding on algae on rocky shores, the adults particularly, but not exclusively, on Fucus serratus. The young also found on small red and brown algae, until they reach a size too large for the small fronds to support their weight. Avoids Ascophyllum nodosum. Occurs in most conditions of exposure including the extremes, but requires a damp habitat as it has poor resistance to desiccation. Dead shells common. No old records. |
