Common, locally abundant, living on all rock and boulder shores except in extreme exposure and very reduced salinity. In areas where there is a good supply of food such as partly rotten brown algae especially Laminaria spp. stipes, it is extremely abundant. Winkle harvesting takes place in many areas, sometimes to the detriment of the shore. Dead shells abundant and widespread. Many old records. |
