Figured: S M Smith
Height: 9 mm

Very common, living on exposed and moderately exposed rocky shores from the splash zone down to the zone of Pelvetia canaliculata. Small specimens are abundant living in Lichina pygmaea and dead barnacles. Roosts in damp crevices and prefers north-facing shady sites. Appears to be unable to tolerate such extreme exposure as Littorina arcana, L. compressa and L. saxatilis, due to less resistance to desiccation. Occasionally found living low on the shore and inshore on algae. Chief food is lichen. Dead shells not commonly found. Many old records.
