Washed up alive in driftwood at Grogarry, South Uist in 1967 (A R Waterston). Dredged from muddy sand in 90m in Loch Ewe in 1990 (Holt, 1991b), record not confirmed. Has been found in pier piles in several localities in the Clyde (Allen, 1962) and Loch Ryan (Owen, 1953), where dead shells were found in remains of Cairnryan pier, built 1941, as late as 1971. This site has since been redeveloped as the P&O ferry terminal. McIntosh (1866) recorded it from Loch Maddy. Also found off the Argyll coast in 1913 (Urmston). |
