Common, living inshore in muddy gravel to about 70m, sometimes with Nucula nitidosa. Rarely found amongst the roots of Corallina officinalis and in the holdfasts of Laminaria spp. at low water, to which habitats it may have been accidentally washed in as spat but in which it appears to be able to survive. The commonest Nucula species. Dead shells found on the Hebrides Terrace in 1982. The records from southwest of White Strip Bank require confirmation. Many old records. |
