Marshall (1893) recorded perfect dead shells from Loch Torridon, Loch Duich and off Eigg, probably fossil. Fossil valves in good condition have been obtained from muddy gravel (reworked till) in the Sound of Jura in 1977, and are not uncommon in Clyde Beds deposits in the Loch Fyne area. Dead shells found down to over 800m.
