Specimens thought to be this species, rare, floating over tide-covered boulders on the lower shore of Loch Carron in April 1985 (Smith, 1985c) and another found in a dive sample at Craobh Haven, Loch Shuna in March 1985 (Smith, 1987a). Not found in either area on the shore despite careful searches carried out in June and April respectively, in the more usual habitat in the barnacle zone. Also apparently recorded from the shore of Upper Loch Fyne, 1892 (Murray's Medusa notes in Chumley, 1818). This is considered to be a southern species and thus would be far outside its usual range. There is a voucher specimen for the Loch Shuna record, but this has not been seen by Nunn. All these records are almost certainly errors for the dark brown/black form of Acanthodoris pilosa. |
