Figured: S M Smith; Jeffreys, 1869 [Pl. 98: 3 as Otina otis]
Length: 4 mm

Found living in crevices with Cingula trifasciata and Lasaea adansoni, upper shore, exposed west coast of Islay. The first site, found in October 1979 had been obliterated by wave action by 1982 (Smith, 1982c, 1983c). Probably adventitious, at the northern end of its range. The record from Oldshoremore Bay, Sutherland (J Charlish) has not been checked and is considered extremely doubtful. Also recorded by Norman (1860) and Robertson from Arran. Allen (1962) referring to these records, indicated that it was found on stranded weed, which suggests a possible misidentification. Fresh dead shells found on the strandline at several sites in Co Donegal, including Qweedore Bay and Mullaghderg in 1970 (M Brisco) and Ballyhoorisky, in 1989, but searching did not yield live animals. There is an old record from Rosapenna (J W Walker in 1902).
