We find that this is a very problematic taxon. Oliver et al. (2010) describe an example from Oban, which is apparently like P. striatum. All our Palliolum specimens collected in the presence of Killeen or Mackie from here are clearly Palliolum tigerinum. We have many specimens of Palliolum tigerinum from the present area and elsewhere, including size ranges. A few of the small specimens could be construed as being Palliolum incomparabile, but none of the middle-sized or larger ones. We suspect that in some regions the forms can be easily distinguished, but the best that we can conclude is that these, if two species, hybridise. Old and unchecked records are ignored.
