Very common living in rock pools especially on exposed coasts. In some localities also found on open rock at low water. Feeds on Corallina officinalis and Lithothamnion glaciale. In a few sites, especially on Islay, it is not easy to separate from Patella vulgata: specimens have some characters of one species and some of the other in various combinations. Frequently encrusted with coralline and/or filamentous green algae. Dead shells common. Many old records. |
