Common and locally numerous, living at and just beneath the surface of soft mud from low water to moderate depths. Carnivorous, wide diet of other molluscs and polychaetes. Egg masses are on the surface. Dead shells occasionally found on the strandline. Old records mostly from the Clyde and Ireland. All records of Philine aperta transferred to P. quadripartita due to long term historical misidentification - P. aperta only present in South Africa & Mozambique. |
