Widespread and fairly common, living in muddy gravel inshore and on hard ground offshore as far north as the Shiants. Fairly common on the Hebrides Terrace and Slope to below 1000m. Less widespread than most pectinids and probably only numerous in the south of the area. Recorded from the Hebrides by Jeffreys (1866) and Marshall (1894) and Oban (1913b), as Pecten pes-lutrae. Many old records from the Clyde.
