Figured: S M Smith
Length: 30-38 mm

Common. In the 1970s very common living in sand and muddy sand at low water, growing very large. There was a distinct diminution of stock since then, but slight signs of a revival from 1988. A previous disappearance from the Clyde was noted by Elmhirst & Stephen (1929). Dead shells widespread but abundance similar to that of live animals. Many old records.
